Upcoming Print from Martin Ansin X Justin Ishmael

As a collector of art, movie prints have a special part in my heart. Movie posters are meant to draw in potential viewers of upcoming films. Great movie posters take you on a ride of the potential ride a film can take you on. These pieces of art can also resonate with you long after the film. A glimpse of the image can make you relive your favorite moments. Beyond the commercial purpose of movie posters, great prints captivate the imagination of their surveyors and make them dream of their own misadventure through the film’s reality. Artist like Drew Struzan brought movie goers to the cinema while also inspiring generations of upcoming artists. Sadly, great art and commercialism doesn’t always work hand in hand.

While some directors and producers try to continue the age-old art of amazing art posters, the art of movie posters have really been kept thriving by the many amazing artists that work with print companies like Bottleneck Gallery, Mondo, Mad Duck Posters, and others. This art form is also kept alive by the many private commission groups that want to support artists that make prints that make you fall in love with their favorite films all over again.

One of my favorite Star Wars Episode 4 prints by Jack Gregory, titled “Boarding Party (A New Hope). Printed by Bottleneck Gallery. Check out Jack’s work: https://www.instagram.com/jack_c_gregory/

As new prints are premiered from major distributors, I would like to share some of my favorite announcements here. The first print I wanted to highlight is a tease from the amazing Martin Ansin. Below are the only two teasers that have been released from Bottleneck Gallery and Justin Ishmael.

Ansin has been known for the creative layers that he places in his designs. Based on the two images presented on Twitter, we see Astro Boy zooming by (which may be a small detail in the larger composition) and a x-ray of Astro Boy (which may be the central focal point of the print). My mind races while thinking of what Ansin’s final composition will look. Luckily, we do not have to wait long. This print is set to be revealed and sold next week. This print, along with the previously released Astro Boy print from Laurent Durieux, was set up in a series curated by Justin Ishmael. Justin has a long history in this space. Ishmael was once the CEO and Creative Director of Mondo for six years and was responsible for helping bring forth some of the best posters released over the last decade. Now, he has his own company titled ISH, where he still curate and creates posters, toys, and apparel.

When more information comes out about the awesome print, I will add an update to this post. In the meantime, check out Martin Ansin’s work on his site: http://martinansin.com/ If you want to learn more about Justin Ishmael and his work, check out his site: https://www.justinishmael.com/
