Standout Humble Bundle Choice Games for September 2021
Recently, I started gaming more on my PC than my PS5, Series X, and Switch. PC gaming, for me, offers a wide array of experiences that you can’t find as easily on consoles. My love for those consoles are still there but for what I’m looking for between blockbusters, are smaller experiences that are created by smaller developers that have a unique vision. A good gateway into seeing smaller titles and getting some bigger ones can be done through Humble Bundle. Beyond the Choice subscription, there are other bundles that Humble provides for limited time including books, comics, and other themed game collections. Some of the proceeds are also given to charity.
Last month was my first subscription through the site in years. I was able to grab some titles I’ve been waiting to hit a sale price (Superliminal and Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night) and decided to commit myself to the subscription model for a year’s time. I understand that it’s partially a gamble because you don’t know what titles will be available the next month but overall, you usually end up with a set of games in your Steam library that would’ve cost you way more than the monthly fee you paid for. Also, Humble does allow you to see the ratings of each game selected via Steam. Also, like they have in the past, they provide trailers, screenshots, and a brief synopsis of each title.
One of the things I wanted to also do is provide my readers with some insight of any cool titles that are being premiered on Humble Bundle and let them know if, based on my taste, this month’s selection is worth checking out or maybe passing. Again, every game may not be your thing but the Humble does keep things interesting, with providing titles you may not have heard of but now will give a second look… and possibly a moment of your gaming time.
So, for the month of September 2021, Humble Bundle Choice was a cool mix of games that range from golf to adventure puzzle games. Here are the list from this month:
Af first glance, I wasn’t sure about the offerings provided. I’m not big on the PGA series and a few titles did not look interesting. After diving deeper in the games listed, I became more excited. Here are the some of the standouts that I look forward to diving into very soon:
Heaven’s Vault
From Inkle Studios, Heaven’s Vault looks like an awesome story driven puzzle game. You play an archeologist who’s trying to uncover a mystery while also trying to decipher an ancient language. The art style captures you at first glance. The game is from a small team. I was able to also watch the GDC 2018 discussion from Inkle’s Jon Ingold, where he discussed the process that his studio went through to craft the game that is here today. The title was originally released on PC and PS4 on April 16th, 2019 and released this year on the Nintendo Switch on January 28th.
Not For Broadcast (Early Access)
Not For Broadcast is a title in progress from NotGames and tinyBuild. tinyBuild is widely known for the Hello Neighbor series. This title appears very different than their previous games with one clear big change: full motion video. The first thing that came to mind was the cult classic Night Trap. You control the different video feeds on different video screens. While you’re not trying to capture augers, you are trying to work towards something more dire: the choice of propaganda and videos presented to the viewing masses of the nation experiencing a change of government. What videos will you play? What will happen after you choose what to show the masses?
This title is currently in early access, meaning that it’s not officially out. Consumers can purchase the game and play through the first two chapters of the game and give feedback to the developers as they continue to complete the ten chapter game. They have announced that they are going to give players a chance to play the first three chapters before the game is completed and start witnessing the results of some of your choices.
Orwell: Ignorance is Strength
This game is actually the second season of a previous game titled simply Orwell. We are greeted with eh assignment to find a missing employee. With the assistance of a supervisor, you are to use Orwell, a governmental surveillance program. You have access to not only government files but also social media documents based on some of the people you are watching. You are part of Big Brother and what you do with the information gathered can impact how things transpire.
While the title has received some mixed reviews , the overall reception has been overall positive. Some of the complaints seem to stem from it not being as well received as it’s predecessor. Still appears to be a good game and I look forward to giving it a go.
Roki
Roki is an exploration title from United Label Games and Polygon Treehouse. Like some of the other games in this bundle, Roki has a beautiful artstyle and presents the player with different puzzles to push forward the narrative. Along with the artstyle, the soundtrack caught my attention for this game. Beyond these elements, I don’t much more about the story for the game. I did that the title was nominated for multiple awards and is also available on Nintendo Switch. I love seeing more games taht have such a unique style be availabe on multiple platforms.
While I’ve only highlighted four titles, there are several others that I am excited to give a chance after I play the first several games that excited me most. If you’re interested in any of these titles, they can be bought from Humble Bundle. The current bundle should be up until October 4th.
