It's Back! Tarsem's The Fall is coming back with a 4K release!

Many years ago, when I was in college, I ventured to my local Best Buy and bought a new round of films on new release day. One of those DVDs happened to be Tarsem’s The Fall. I fell in love with The Fall, one of the best films from Director Tarsem Singh. Singh is also known as the director of: The Cell (2000), which starred Jennifer Lopez and Vincent D’Onofrio and Immortals (2011), which starred a pre-Superman Henry Cavill and Mickey Rourke. The Fall is the first time I was introduced to Lee Pace, when went on to star in other big films like The Hobbit trilogies as Thranduil and as Ronan the Conqueror in Guardians of the Galaxy.

When thinking of a way to describe the film to others, I have a hard time explaining the premise without feeling like I’m spoiling some of the surprise of the movie. The film does take place in the 1920s and deals with Lee Pace’s character, Roy Walker, who is a stuntman who gets injured after a jump from a bridge. While hospitalized, he meets a curious little girl who starts to listen to Walker’s whimsical and sometimes painful story. The trailer gives a good glimpse into this amazing film but I would recommend seeing the film to get the full effect of the story.

This release marks the first 4K release of this amazing film. This special release is brought to us by Umbrella Home Entertainment. The release will include the following extras:

A 100 page book with behind-the-scenes, experiences and art with essays by William Bibbiani, Nadine Whitney and David Michael Brown

  • Custom rigid case artwork

  • Custom slipcase artwork

  • 8 artcards

  • A3 reversible poster

  • Limited Edition Numbered release

Along with these physical features, the film itself will also include the following video extras not included in the previous release:

  • Interview with Production Designer Ged Clarke

  • Interview with Cinematographer Colin Watkinson

  • Interview with Actor Lee Pace

  • The Making of an Impossible Film: A Video Essay by Virat Nerhu

  • The Quest for Origins - Trauma, Cinema and Storytelling in Tarsem’s The Fall: A Video Essay by Anton Bitel

Why Should You Check Out The Fall ?

This film displays an amazing view of a story being told from a unique perspective. For years, the North American print of this film on DVD and Blu-Ray have been out of print. Recently, the streaming service, MUBI, has started to show the film to the North American audience. This film is an easy recommendation for any lover of film and would be an awesome blind buy if you enjoy physical media and if the trailer intrigued you.
