Loose Singles for the Week of August 1st, 2021

As we venture into a new month, we are welcomed to new songs to paint our day to day lives. While we like to go and play songs we love, new songs always seem to find their way into our playlist and earn a permanent stay in our rotation. Below are four current tracks that is currently starting off our week.

Say What You Will by James Blake

Say What You Will by James Blake is the first single from Blake’s upcoming album Friends That Break Your Heart. This melancholic tune remarks on successes the past of one’s self while looking more somberly at the present moment. The mood of the instrumental makes the feel more demure while highlighting the bravado of his yesteryear. The song highlights how he is still capable of making it through day by day but without fanfare or theatrics. Friends That Break Your Heart is scheduled to release on September 10th.

Signal From The Noise by BadBadNotGood

The soulful Jazz band BadBadNotGood is back with a new single titled Signal from the Noise. This is the lead single from their new album Talk Memory , which is coming October 8th. This nine minute track takes you on a journey that you don’t expect from it’s start. The beginning has a more distorted, harsh intro that slowly starts to clear as you move down the path the band lays for you. The song doesn’t end on a sad or joyful note. It feels like the completion of a day, a journey that has come to an end. I look forward to hearing more from their upcoming LP.

Skate by Silk Sonic (Bruno Mars x Anderson Paak)

While the memory of Leave the Door Open still echoes in the minds of music fans, the sentiment that the album is much needed is shared amongst most. While we wait for the final release of the full album, Bruno and Andy finally released a follow-up track to their smash single. Skate is a nice summer anthem for relaxing by the boardwalks or beach. The song continues the theme of wooing an attractive mate to come and “skate” their way to your heart. While it’s not as hard hitting as their first single, Skate is a lighthearted and a nice holdover for the album release.

Sip Into Something Soft by Hiatus Kaiyote

Sip Into Something Soft is a song that carries such a relaxing vibe, even with it’s off kilter drums accompanying the floaty notes of the keys. A more smooth groove the lead single, Red Room, but still resonate just as well. More about their newly released album, Mood Valiant, will be covered on our site soon.
