New Look at Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
On Tuesday, March 28th, 2023, Nintendo dropped a new Direct video that highlighted ten minutes of the new entry in the Zelda franchise. The purpose of the video was to highlight a few of the new game mechanics in Tears of the Kingdom.
Recall: Recall is a new power that allow Link to have an object rewind back to place it originated.
Fuse: Fuse allows Link to combine two objects together. For example, fusing an eye of a monster with an arrow turns the arrow into an arrow with auto-targeting. Fuse also allows for you to extend the durability of some weapons. This may also help with some of the concerns that some gamers had with Breath of the Wild and how most weapons would break and no longer exist.
Ultrahand: Ultrahand allows Link to craft larger objects like boats and hovercrafts. This will allow Link to move across bodies of water and even fly in the air.
Ascend: Ascend allows Link to move up and through the ceiling of an area. It was mentioned that there are some limitations but it should work in most places. If you’re stuck in a cage and it has a ceiling, you can ascend through it.
At the close of the Direct, Nintendo officially shared the upcoming Switch OLED, Pro Controller, and carrying case to celebrate the upcoming release for this title. A leaked image of the console’s packaging was shared last December but many brushed it off as a Photoshopped image. After the official announcement, it appears that the leak was true. Below is a look at the console and accessory designs.
The new console is releasing on April 28th, 2023 while the controller and case are coming out along with the game on May 12th, 2023. Having played on the launch model, the updated 2020 model, and the OLED model, the vibrancy of the colors and depths of the blacks on the OLED screen are worth considering. Also the kickstand on the OLED model is a big improvement. Regardless of how you decide to get the new OLED model or play with your current Switch, Tears of the Kingdom is shaping up to be a game that Breath of the Wild fans will love.
